Making the Prototype (Fall 2021)
Into The Mind of Pedro Linares Installation

Only supposed to be a pitch and a prototype for a class project, we created a miro board with research and documentation and 1:12 scale 30 X 20" prototype. Little did we know this would help us visualize certain elements we would later incorporate into the full-scale design.

We first created a mood board and from there Julio Martinez 3D modeled animals and the environment

Afterwards we began build which took 1 week

Making the Installation

After receiving a lot of support from profrssors and peers we recievied a grant curtosey of the diversity and inclusion council that helped us actualize a 'slice' of the prototype.

We acquired a space to house our installation we made a rough floor plan in Vectorworks and took note of all the elements we wanted to include

I designed and cut out a new sign on the CNC. We also made hanging flowers to go over the pond and a new pond to replace the original.

We rigged the lights, set up the truss, and began to place our pieces in the space. Since it was a different venue from what we were used to we had to get creative with the space and make sure we were compliant with the owner's regulations.

Team One Dream revived and iterated on Into the Mind of Pedro Linares for the Arts and Entertainment Technologies End of the Year showcase Inside Out (April 2024)

Team One Dream was nominated and won the People's Choice Award and Most Innovative at the Inside Out Arts and Entertainment Technologies Showcase Spring 2024 which had an attendance of 300+ people.

Behind the Scenes

In preparation for the event my team and I decided to repair some of the things that needed fixing like the facade, the paper flowers, and some of the animals. In addition to that, a new fox was laser cut and painted; 3 new light-up piñata birds were made; a large monster head was laser cut and painted; 2 baby lizards were sculpted; and 50 hanging flowers were made.

I fabricated the new birds with a paper craft bird template used in the previous iterations and cut out holes to put string lights in them. Afterward, I covered them with paint and intricately cut tissue paper.

We also rigged all the hanging elements with the fishing line and flew it out with the help of our professor.

Team One Dream, after a rigorous application process, was invited to present their work at Luminaria in  San Antonio Texas -- a dream come true!

Planning

This event has taken a lot more planning, coordination, and money to pull off since the venue is in a different city, it's outside, and the location doesn't have all the equipment we usually have to rig our pieces.

With the help of our school the College of Fine Arts we were awarded 1,000 dollars and funds for transportation to participate in the festival.

Luminaria is expecting over 30,000 guests this year so we want to make sure that our installation is durable, portable, and incredible!

This has required us to come up with different techniques for rigging and modifying our pieces to make for the best experience.

Floor Plan

Using a collection of photos, videos, and rough measurements I made a ground plan using VectorWorks that my team and I could use to visualize where we wanted our pieces to be. This document was later given to the event coordinators as well as a reference document complete with images of the pieces and their dimensions; pitches for rigging and installation; and concept art for additional pieces in progress to help them better understand our plans for the space.

Facade 3.0

Due to the lack of storage space, we had to dismantle the Facade after the Inside Out showcase. But after discussing with the event coordinators of Luminaria they insisted it be a part of the upcoming showing. This gave me a chance to rebuild it with more structural integrity and out of more durable materials.

Using Vectorworks I have created multiple iterations as well as a structural drawing which will be used to help create the final build.
